The Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter Society, Inc. (KRRAS) is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) located in Hazard, Kentucky. The Shelter facilitates and cares for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals in Breathitt, Knott, Letcher, and Perry counties. With an average intake of over three hundred animals per month, the center works diligently to find foster care and forever homes for all animals as well as a spay and neuter program. Over the last six years, KRRAS has been able to successfully save over 98 percent of the animals, and this is in part due to the relationships with over 30 rescues located throughout the United States. The Shelter employs three full-time employees and utilizes volunteers who assist with the maintenance of the kennel facilities, foster care (including Hospice care), rescue efforts, food, supplies, and transport.
